The Chex® Party Mix Recipe Contest is sponsored by General Mills Sales, Inc. (“General Mills”), One General Mills Blvd., Minneapolis, MN 55440 and The Reader’s Digest Association, Inc. (“RDA”) at 1 Readers Digest Road, Pleasantville, NY 10570
WHAT IS THE CONTEST?The Chex® Party Mix Recipe Contest encourages creative cooks to use Chex® cereal and other ingredients to create 15 minute homemade Chex® snack mix recipes. Entrants can submit their original Chex® cereal recipes online, at www.ChexRecipeContest.com. The Chex® Party Mix Recipe Contest begins at 12:00 AM (CST) on May 19, 2009 and ends at 11:59 PM (CST) on July 15, 2009. All entries must be submitted by July 15, 2009. General Mills computer is the official time-keeping device for the Contest.
WHAT CAN I WIN?
Prizes
Grand Prize
One (1) of the five (5) selected Finalist recipes will be judged the Grand Prize Winner. The Grand Prize winner will be awarded the following prizes:
- A check for five thousand dollars ($5,000)
A One Thousand Dollar ($1,000) grocery gift card
A trip for two to tour the Betty Crocker® Kitchens in Minneapolis, MN on 11/30/09 through 12/2/09. Trip includes airfare for two, two nights at a hotel for two, five hundred dollars ($500.00) for incidentals, entrance into the Mix and Mingle event with Katie Lee and a chance to meet Katie Lee.
The winning recipe may be featured on a Chex® cereal box at the discretion of General Mills.
Finalist Prizes
The five (5) Finalists, including the Grand Prize Winner, will be awarded:
- A check for five hundred dollars ($500.00)
One box of free Chex® per week for one year (52 coupons for Free Chex® Cereal)
A gift basket provided by RDA and Betty Crocker® including cookbooks, magazines, merchandise, kitchen dishware and kitchen utensils.
Approximate total retail value of each finalist prize package is $1,084. (Total ARV $5,420).
All taxes and any expenses associated with the prizes, not listed herein, if any, are the sole responsibility of the winners. Neither the sponsors nor their affiliates or subsidiaries will be responsible for any loss, liability or damage arising out of the winners’ acceptance or use of the prize(s). For travel prize, Winner and Guest may wish to obtain travel insurance (or other forms of insurance) at their own expense and hereby acknowledge that the Sponsors have not and will not obtain or provide travel insurance or any other form of insurance. Winner and Guest must possess valid travel documents in order to travel and must travel on same itinerary. Guest must be 21 years of age or older to accompany Winner as part of the Grand Prize. Should the Winner elect to not take a guest, or such guest is unable to accompany Winner on same itinerary, or winner elects not to travel, Winner shall forfeit that portion of the Grand Prize and the difference between the actual value of the Grand Prize and the stated ARV will not be awarded. This contest is void where prohibited or otherwise regulated. All federal, state and local laws apply. Sponsors reserve the right to substitute a prize of equal or greater value if a stated prize is unavailable for any reason. Prizes are non-assignable and non-transferable, except at the sole discretion of the Sponsors and may not be given, bartered, sold, or exchanged for cash or another prize.
WHO CAN ENTER?
Eligibility:
You are eligible to enter this contest if you are 21 years of age or older as of May 19, 2009, and are a legal United States resident residing in one of the 50 United States or District of Columbia during the competition. Void in Puerto Rico and where prohibited. Entries originating from any other jurisdiction are not eligible for entry. The Chex® Party Mix Recipe Contest is subject to all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations. Participation in the Contest constitutes entrant’s full and unconditional agreement to these Official Rules and Sponsors’ decisions, which are final and binding in all matters related to the Contest. Winning a prize is contingent upon fulfilling all requirements set forth herein.
The following people are not eligible to enter and will be disqualified if entered:
Any type of food professional, such as a chef, food writer or food home economist who creates recipes for pay.
Employees of General Mills, RDA, or any of its respective parents, subsidiaries and affiliated companies or any promotion, advertising, judging or public relations company doing business with General Mills, RDA or any of their respective parents, subsidiaries and affiliated companies, or a member of the immediate family (parent or legal guardian, children, siblings or spouse, regardless of where they live) or same household of such employees (whether related or not).
By participating, entrant agrees to these rules and the Sponsors’ and judges’ decisions, which shall be final and legally binding in all matters relating to this contest. Winner agrees that (except where prohibited) Sponsors may use winner’s name, picture, likeness and voice for advertising and promotional purposes without further compensation. General Mills, RDA, and its promotional and advertising agencies, and all respective officers, directors, employees, representatives and agents shall have no liability and shall be held harmless by winner for any damage, loss or liability to person or property, due in whole or part, directly or indirectly, by reason of the acceptance or use of a prize or participation in this Contest. General Mills and RDA (which includes its affiliates and each of their agents, officers, employees, licensees and all parties associated with this contest) are not responsible for lost, destroyed, delayed, incomplete, illegible or misdirected materials. All entries become the property of Sponsors upon receipt and will not be returned. As a condition of entering this contest, entrant agrees that: (1) any and all claims, judgments and awards are limited to actual out-of-pocket costs incurred in participating in this contest; and (2) entrant waives all rights to claim any other damages, including punitive, incidental and consequential damages and attorneys' fees.
HOW TO ENTER

Go to www.ChexRecipeContest.com to submit your original Chex® Party Mix recipe using the online entry form. Please fill in all requested information completely. Recipe must be for a Chex® snack mix and must include at least three (3) cups of intact Chex® cereal. Any flavor or combination of the following Eligible Products may be used: Rice Chex®, Wheat Chex®, Corn Chex®, Honey Nut Chex®, Multi Bran Chex®, Chocolate Chex®, Cinnamon Chex®, or Strawberry Chex®. Recipe must be capable of being prepared within fifteen (15) minutes by a test kitchen expert (does not include cooling time). Entry must list the eligible product(s) used. List each recipe ingredient with specific flavor, exact measurements or weights, and in the order used. Provide complete preparation directions including microwave/baking time and temperature and type of bakeware used (including exact dimensions or size).
All electronic entries must be received between 12:00 a.m. on May 19, 2009 and 11:59 p.m. on July 15, 2009 (central time). Each electronic recipe entry should be submitted only once. You may enter as many different recipes as you wish. Use of automated processes and devices to submit electronic entries are not permitted. Contest Sponsors are not responsible for any changes or effects caused to the entrant's computer system as a result of submitting electronic entries.
Only entries submitted via the website electronic form will be accepted. Entries submitted via any other method, including but not limited to U.S. Postal Service, facsimile or other express delivery services will NOT be accepted. Contest sponsors and their promotion agencies are not responsible for lost, late, misdirected or otherwise undeliverable mail, or entries that cannot be processed due to phone, network, electronic or computer hardware or software failure, or technical failures of any kind, whether caused by Contest Sponsors, entrants or by any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilized in the promotion or by any technical or human error which may occur in the processing of submissions which may damage a user’s system or limit a participant’s ability to participate in the promotion. General Mills and RDA reserve the right at its sole discretion to disqualify any individual that tampers or attempts to tamper with the entry process or the operation of the contest or website or violates the Official Rules. In the case of duplicate recipes, the first entry received will be judged. By submitting your recipe, you accept all contest rules and agree to be bound by the decisions of the judges, which will be final. You also agree that your recipe becomes the sole property of Sponsors and Sponsors reserve the right to edit, adapt, copyright, publish, transfer and use any or all of them, in any and all media without compensation. General Mills and RDA reserve the right in their sole discretion to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Contest should virus, bugs, non-authorized human intervention, fraud or other causes beyond its control corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness or proper conduct of the Contest. In such case, General Mills and RDA will select the winner from all eligible entries received prior to and/or after (if appropriate) the action taken by General Mills and RDA.
CAUTION -- ANY ATTEMPT BY AN ENTRANT TO DELIBERATELY DAMAGE THE WEBSITE OR UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THE CONTEST MAY BE IN VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAWS. SHOULD SUCH AN ATTEMPT BE MADE, SPONSOR RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SEEK REMEDIES AND DAMAGES (INCLUDING ATTORNEY’S FEES) FROM ANY SUCH ENTRANT TO THE FULLEST EXTENT OF THE LAW, INCLUDING CRIMINAL PROSECUTION.
The total number of contestants anticipated nationwide is 2,000.
HOW WILL RECIPES BE JUDGED?
All entries must meet the contest requirements. Recipe entries must be created by the contestant. Initial judging will be done by Sponsors for appropriate use of eligible products in addition to the criteria outlined below for the finalist recipes:
- Taste/Visual Appeal
- Creativity/Uniqueness
Judges will disqualify previously published recipes, unless the recipe features changes considered significant by the judges at their sole discretion. Finalists will be required to certify, on information or belief, that their recipes are their own creation and have not been published or publicized and have not won a national contest. Sponsors will select and supply the ingredients and cooking equipment to be used during judging. General Mills reserves the right to substitute comparable products at its discretion. Final judging will be done by a panel of food experts and representatives from General Mills and RDA. Decisions of the judges are final in all matters relating to this Contest.
The judges will select five (5) Finalists (the “Finalists”). Sponsors will notify each of the entrants who submitted one of the 5 Finalist recipes that they have been selected to be a Finalist. The Finalists’ recipes will be publicly announced and posted on www.ChexRecipeContest.com. Judging of the Finalist recipes will be conducted through a public vote of the public’s favorite recipe on www.ChexRecipeContest.com with voting commencing on or about September 15, 2009 at 12:00 AM(CST) and closing on or about October 15, 2009 at 11:59 PM (CST). (Date subject to change at Sponsors’ discretion). Voting Guidelines for this public vote will be posted on www.ChexRecipeContest.com. The Finalist recipe to receive the highest number of votes during the public voting process will be named the Grand Prize Winner. In the event of a tie, during the public voting process, the Grand Prize Winner will be chosen by a panel of judges selected at Sponsors’ sole discretion.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I’M A FINALIST?If you are one of the five (5) Finalists, you will be notified on or about August 6, 2009 via email, phone and/or postal mail. All selected Finalists will be required to sign an affidavit of eligibility, a liability release/assignment of rights, and a photograph of themselves and return within forty eight (48) hours of receipt of notification. Any Finalist who does not comply with this requirement, cannot be easily located using the information provided in the entry may be disqualified and an alternate Finalist may be selected. Except where prohibited by law, each Finalist will be required to sign a release giving General Mills and RDA full rights to use the Finalist's name, likeness, image, photograph, and voice for Contest related advertising and publicity, including such usage on the Internet.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I WIN?
The Grand Prize winner will be announced on or about December 2, 2009 at www.ChexRecipeContest.com. The winner and travel companion will be required to sign an affidavit of eligibility, assignment of rights and a liability and promotional release and return within forty eight (48) hours of receipt of notification.
A list of all finalists and winner with first name, last initial and city and state of residence will be posted on the Contest website on or about December 2, 2009.
ANY WINNER WHO DOES NOT COMPLY WITH THESE REQUIREMENTS OR CANNOT BE LOCATED AT THE ADDRESS OR PHONE NUMBER PROVIDED WILL NOT BE ELIGIBLE FOR PRIZE AND AN ALTERNATE WINNER WILL BE SELECTED. Except where prohibited by law, winner will be required to sign a release giving General Mills, RDA and its nominees full rights to use the winner’s name, likeness, image and voice for Contest related advertising and publicity, in all media including such usage on the Internet and on Chex® cereal packaging. General Mills and RDA reserve the right to cancel this promotion at its sole discretion.
